Going in and out of beetle hole in washed up log on beach - nest hole (you can see debris below the hole) second picture show it carrying a "sand hopper" into the nest and show the striped abdomen better.

Liris
I agree that this is a species of Liris, probably L. argentatus. Early season of activity, plus prey, helps me to reach that conclusion.
