Sorry, poor photo - Arthromacra pilosella - Male
Devil's Den State Park, Washington County, Arkansas, USA
May 25, 2011
Sorry, bad picture of a really pretty beetle. I just don't know what it is. Seen in deciduous forest at mid day. Can be frassed once I have a name for it. :)

Dorsum that hairy - must be this.

Arthromacra pilosella?
This genus is quite difficult, an I have only recently seen a detailed key to the three species: Ciegler, 2014 (1). Many photographs on BugGuide and iNaturalist have perhaps been assigned to A. aenea without clear evidence, as that is a widespread species.
To me, the hairiness of the elytra and pronotum is distinctive on this individual, and quite different than other photographs assigned to A. aenea. The bright green coloration, with pale legs (femora, tibiae, and tarsi) plus mostly pale antennae (dark terminal segment) are also different than other A. aenea. Ciegler describes A. pilosella: "Elongate, subcylindrical, slightly broader behind, shiny. Greenish or greenish coppery bronze; antennae, tibiae, and tarsi pale testaceous, abdomen dark bronze. Dorsal surface of pronotum and elytra with long, thin, dark setae." Cigler notes range west to Tennessee, Indiana, so Arkansas seems reasonable. There are three species (plus some subspecies of aenea), all from eastern North America. Of the three species, Ciegler only notes the long hairs in pilosella, so I think that must be what this is. I'll give a day or two for comments, then move the image.
Edit: new guide page for A. pilosella

WOW!
What was that you said about: "sorry, poor photo"? Actually, quite beautiful, and also fortunate to get the dorsal setae in focus if Patrick is correct (and I suspect he is) about the species ID. I wonder if Warren Steiner is still on BugGuide, as he might have some additional insight into these issues?

He hasn't made a comment in a decade or so

Wonder if it is related to Arthromacra?

Nice green!
