Herd Socialization - Cerastipsocus venosus

Herd Socialization - Cerastipsocus venosus
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
April 10, 2012
Cerastipsocus are very social insects. Each herd has a gives off a distinctive pheromone and herds do not mix. Herd "A" was grouped in the ground, when I disturbed them by moving some grass for a photo. They scattered, moving up the tree, mixing with Herd "B." After some serious posturing and wing-flapping between the adults, the herds separated, Herd "B" moving farther up the tree.
