Size: length ~16mm
Light attracted. As to its ID I am guessing - maybe I'm right this time! It's a wild one - 8574 Anticarsia gemmatalis. Anyway, I tried.

gemmatalis would also have markings on the hindwing; this hindwing is unmarked

Thank you, agony over. I was concerned about the hind wing but was encouraged by Bob Patterson's comment of "amazing variations." I just could not find a match in several galleries I have consulted.
