sawfly - north Phoenix area - Ripiphorus rex - male

sawfly - north Phoenix area - Ripiphorus rex - Male
Foutain Hills - McDonald Regional Park, Maricopa County, Arizona, USA
April 8, 2012
Size: 15 mm
seems to be a sawfly of some sort, but having a difficult time figuring out which one......

This is a female
The pectinate antennae indicate female, not male (they have biflabellate antennae)...see info page for more info.

size
this was taken with a macro lens, then cropped to reduce file size. It flew more like a bee, and was slightly larger than a honeybee, little over an inch.......

Moved tentatively/cropped; nice pic! it's a beetle...
will seek expert confirmation
NB: can't be 4 cm, though --pls correct size data

Moved from ID Request.
