Firewood beetle - Hypulus simulator

Firewood beetle - Hypulus simulator
Loudon, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, USA
April 12, 2012
After splitting a load of firewood I noticed (and recognized) this boldly marked little melandyid on the wood grain. I'm trying out my new 65mm macro lens. This image is actually a manual photo montage from two images of the motionless beetle. The 65mm lens cannot capture the full depth of a beetle this size. It's really suited to minute specimens.
