Definitely a female Asterocampa clyton
Deciding which subspecies isn't quite as easy. Texas is basically the hub where all the subspecies meet, and they all blend into one another. However in northeastern Texas, I would say that subspecies
clyton
is probably going to be the best fit for the local populations.
In Trans-Pecos Texas there is ssp.
texana
, in south Texas there is
louisa
, on the east Gulf coastal plain there is
flora
, and north of these east of the Great Plains is "typical"
clyton
; however, it's pretty difficult to know where to draw the lines, and there is often a lot of individual variation. Central Texas is something of a melting pot. The Plains part of Texas doesn't seem to have the species at all, so it's easy there.
:0)
Regardless of what her last name is, she is a pretty one.

Thank you David.
There were just certain things about this one that just didn't fit with any particular one. And yes, very pretty. It was on our window after dark. Something unusual in itself. But it might have something to do with the fact that I've hung a banana with slits in the skin from the tree out front, and they've all been visiting that. Had 14 B-flys on it yesterday.

Asterocampa sp.
My thoughts are
Asterocampa clyton louisa
, however I would defer to David Ferguson's opinion should it differ from mine.
