I think I saw one of these beetles hiking on Mt. Lemmon outside of Tucson, AZ. It seemed to be a lighter shade of blue than the one in the picture though.

in Mountains of New Mexico

What a great resource this is. My daughter found many and many of these Pretty Blue Beetles in the Jemez Mountains in New Mexico. They were all over the mushrooms. We have searched and searched to try and identify this beetle. Does anyone know if they will eat ANY type of mushroom? Do they eat anything else?

Blue beetle

Very pretty. My daughter has foud two of them now in the woods around our home in the mountain foothills of Palmer Lake Colorado. I assume it eats fungus? Is the real name Pretty Blue Beetle?

Fungus Beetle

The pic in the guide was submitted by a friend of mine and he called it a Rough Fungus Beetle. I'm not an expert on insects of any kind, just beginning to learn more about them and happened to know this one because of recent experience with same.

I found this beautiful insect on my deck today in Prescott, took a picture and did a search. Found this web site and am thrilled. Not only a gorgeous bug but a wonderful resource!

These are in the guide. They were all over the place at Patagonia Lake a couple weeks ago and I saw one in the Santa Ritas this past weekend. Must be a good year for them - they are a pretty beetle.

Gibbifer

Actually the valid name is Gibbifer californicus. I recall there being a drawing of it in Beetles of America. Interesting to note that if you ever see a pinned specimen, it will appear pinkish brown. The color, for some reason tends to fade after death.
