Something similar in
my back garden. The black and tan pod I found felt dried out and empty. I dropped it into a container with two tan colored pods found the days before.
New to me, then find three in three days.

I found something similar once, but it had already eclosed. I think it's some sort of hymenopteran cocoon.

Yes I did!
When I first saw it, I thought it looked a bit like a campoplegine cocoon, but it seemed too big. I'm planning to raise it.

Yes, definitely too big for that. I'm thinking the paler middle is discoloration rather than part of the original design, but I could be wrong.
...Actually, taking a closer look, it seems like that might be some other material attached to the cocoon?
