Unknown Bee - Apis mellifera

Unknown Bee - Apis mellifera
Savannah, Andrew County, Missouri, USA
April 18, 2012
Size: 1 inch
When I checked on the bee hive tonight I discovered this HUGE bee crawling all over the hive and in the grasses near the hive. It resembles a drone bee but is too large. It was very thick bodied and nearly an inch in length. It never offered to fly, but preferred to crawl, or would fall as if it was drunk.
