Blue Butterflies Mating - Celastrina echo - male - female

Blue Butterflies Mating - Celastrina echo - Male Female
Cowiche Canyon Trail, Yakima County, Washington, USA
April 22, 2012
I think these are Celastrina lucia.

The taxonomy of the Azures is a bit conflicted right now
At the moment, pretty much everything west from the Great Plains is being called C. echo, but not all authors agree, and there is a naming disconnect that doesn't reflect the real world very well, between western and eastern treatments.

For now, this is the treatment seen on line at the Butterflies of America web site, and Jonathan Pelham's catalogue.
