Fungus-ridden Ballon Fly - Hilara - male

Fungus-ridden Ballon Fly - Hilara - Male
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
April 22, 2012
Size: ~5mm
Something I don't see every night. While the fuzzy bands on its abdomen look like eggs, I can't imagine how they got there. Eggs or ornamentation? Also, strange looking calipers.

Hilara
A male Hilara.

Was it alive?
Looks like a fungus-ridden dance fly...

Yep
I have photos of it in various locations/position. Notice it's askew to the sheet threads, while in lateral photo, it's more perpendicular. This is the best photo, because moving wings were blurred in others

welp
looks like its on the way out

Trippy
Reminds me of a flapper dress
