A Strymon melinus - Strymon melinus - female

A Strymon melinus - Strymon melinus - Female
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
July 11, 2006
Had the chance to take a few shots of this Strymon melinus. Also took one with the wings slightly opened. Any info, male/female etc would be welcome. I like to keep them right.

In this species, male and female are similar
except that females are slightly larger. Yours does appear to have the fatter abdomen that usually indicates a female, but short of seeing it ovipositing (was it on a host plant, by any chance?), it's hard to be very confident about the sex.

Thank you for the post. It was on and around a fuschia plant for a very long time. It would leave and fly around and then come straight back to it. I didn't see any others. I watched if for more than 15 minutes after I found it there and it was there when I left.
