Odd Beetle - Ectopria nervosa

Odd Beetle - Ectopria nervosa
Stonecoal WMA, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
July 11, 2006
Size: 4 mm
The main part of this beetle reminds me of Chrysomelidae; the hugely serrate antennae remind me of, I don't know, maybe Silis sp. in the Soldier Beetles. What have I got here?

This was a small, attractive, vaguely purplish beetle, photographed on a blade of grass that was growing at the edge of a moderately large creek.

Moved
Moved from Ectopria.

Psephenidae: Ectopria nervosa
While larvae are commonly collected (water pennies), the adults are much less frequent in collections (and photos). Psephenus herricki adults were common here last week, but they seem to be only commonly present for two weeks or so before they become really hard to find.

Thanks
Donald, Thanks so much! I see the reason I couldn't find it in Dillon & Dillon is that is wasn't there. They list only one Psephenid, and it wasn't this one.

This one was smack at the edge of the water; perhaps it had just called up the grass blade after finishing its pupation.

Thanks again for your help with this one!
