Large bark-colored moth - Zale lunata

Large bark-colored moth - Zale lunata
Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, USA
July 9, 2006
Size: Wingspan of at least 3"
I found this large moth hanging out on my patio one morning. It stayed there all day and finally left around dusk. I live on the edge of an urban wildlife refuge which includes a large lake and many creeks and tributaries.

Thanks for the help
I think you're both right, Bob & Julia. The moth photography page was quite helpful, but I can see what you mean about the difficulty in identifying them. Thank you for the assistance.

8689 -- Lunate Zale Moth-- Zale lunata
...most of them show good white discal spots. This one doesn't, but it otherwise has the Lunate Zale patterning.

Appears to be
Bold-Based Zale, Zale lunifera?

looks like a Lunate Zale Moth-- Zale lunata
