Moth? - Spargania magnoliata

Moth? - Spargania magnoliata
Clarenville, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland/Labrador, Canada
July 11, 2006
Size: 1.3cm Body estimated
I found this about 1:00 PM, sitting on the outside window casing of a heavily shaded window. It did not move until I got too close with a ruler, trying to measure it. Then it flew away. I assume it's some kind of moth? Can anyone be more specific? Also, people here call this sort of thing a "Miller" rather than a "Moth". Is there any difference?

Indeed it is a moth
I am no expert on moths, but there is a Double-banded Carpet moth known to the Gulf of Mexico coastal region. It looks a lot like it - Spargania magnoliata of the Geometer subfamily Larentiinae. Jacques

Yes
Yes this is a moth. But I'm not too sure on what kind it could be. Maybe some kind of Geometrid?

Spargania magnoliata exists in Newfoundland
Based on the feedback from everyone, I've looked through the online listing and images of the Geometroidea of Newfoundland and Labrador and an image of the species Spargania magnoliata is included in the listing of moths that are know to live in Newfoundland. Their image also does look a lot like my specimen.  The antennae don't show any pattern as my specimen does but perhaps that's because they photographed preserved specimens instead of live ones.  Based on the ID's already suggested and this additional information that Spargania magnoliata live here, I'll go ahead and move mine to the Spargania magnoliata species page.
