I don't know what genus but I'm sure that someone else will be able to tell you more. The little hook on the end seems like it would be a help in the ID. I'll take a quick look to see if I find anything.

Just a wild guess since I haven't seen any of these myself. Check the immature stages of Polygonia. When you go to that page just click on "Show images of caterpillars" and this will then just show you the immature stages so you don't have to look through all the butterflies, too. But other species of butterflies may have similar-looking chrysalises. Also think of what butterflies you have seen around your area and check their immature stages. This will help to narrow down the search.
