Just hatched - Ululodes

Just hatched - Ululodes
Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida, USA
July 12, 2006
Size: 3 mm
These hatched between about 11 a.m. this morning (when I saw the eggs looking grey) and about 5.15 this p.m. (when I found them all out on the twig). All but one of the eggs hatched. The survival strategy is to drop to to the ground as soon as disturbed, where they become virtually invisible on the soil, so I wasn't able to get a lot of shots in before they all scattered. This is the best of the bunch.

#63459 Identification -- Ululodes sp.
This is a group of egg shells (white) and recently hatched first-instar larvae of an owlfly of the genus Ululodes. Three Ululodes species are currently recorded from Florida, quadripunctatus, macleayanus and floridanus, and it could be any of these.

Thanks
I will move to the genus level.
