Checkerspot caterpillar -
Euphydryas anicia
Sheephead Basin, Moffat County, Colorado, USA
April 21, 2012
Found in NW Colorado. I believe I've narrowed the id down to Euphydryas editha or E. chalcedona. The descriptions are similar. Any help with id is appreciated.
Thanks.

Euphydryas caterpillar
This last instar is Euphydryas anicia wecoeut. They have somewhat unique larvae as compared to other populations of E. anicia, E. chalcedona, or E. editha. See
http://www.raisingbutterflies.org/e-anicia-wecoeut-immatures-pho/
This butterfly was described by Mike Fisher, Steve Spomer, and Jim Scott in 2006 and is also discussed in Butterflies of Colorado, Part 3.

both Euphydryas editha & E. anicia are common in Moffat County,
and I don't have enough experience with each population there to know how to tell the caterpillars apart. I'm going to put them under the genus heading for now.
