small lady beetle - Brachiacantha - female

small lady beetle - Brachiacantha - Female
Sabal Palm Audubon Sanctuary, Brownsville, Cameron County, Texas, USA
April 11, 2012
Size: ~3mm
Found this little beauty along the trail, climbing on a blade of grass.

You can frass it if you'd like
Wish it were a better image and that we had taken more shots, but...

I don't mind having a generic female
I was actually looking for a generic dentipes group female image the other day and couldn't find one, so I will hang onto this for future reference. We seem to have many more photos of males than females!

Moved
Moved from Lady Beetles.

Brachiacantha dentipes group - female
At 3mm it's too small to be B. dentipes itself. There are several species of this size and dorsal appearance in southern TX that can only be ID'd by examination of the male venter or genitalia.
