Now I see that L. undulata and L. insularia are almost identical
Can the difference between the two species be determined
from these photos and others on BG?

 
For those two species, it's the eyes that count
In L. undulata, the eyes are short (not as long as the emargination of the pronotum is deep), while in L. insularis they are noticeably longer (as long as the emargination of the pronotum is deep)
Also, L. insularis has a more southern distribution.
