Identification
Two tails, one short, one long. Underwing brown to gray, with many white lines. Blue patch topped in orange, with several other smaller orange spotsalong trailing edge of the wing.
Range
Canada from Nova Scotia to eastern British Columbia. Eastern U.S. south to Florida and Texas.
Habitat
Openings with nectar sources.
Season
May in the south, July-August in the north.
Food
Larva feeds on a wide variety, including roses, cherry hawthorn and heaths. They eat the flowers, then young leaves.
Life Cycle
One brood, and overwinters as an egg.
