Araneus bonsallae
Moved from Araneus.

I also think that's our best guess. Sadly, there is no specific description for the male of this species in Levi's PDF. However, the dorsal pattern matches the female description and the male says... coloration as in female. The things that don't match are that the female description says rings around secondary eyes yellow & legs green with distal articles reddish. Obviously the rings around the eyes are red and I'd describe the legs as red banded. However, I think this is probably just variation in the species and terminology issues.

This makes us think bonsallae,

but we'll have to hit the books and read the descriptions again.
