These don't seem to match any known galls. If you find them again, definitely collect them!

will do
I looked for some today but had no luck. Also, looked at the tree these were on (it's on my regular creek path and I've been checking it periodically since I found these galls) and now I am thinking it is water oak and not willow. It had the skinny leaves like willow oak when smaller but now also has some leaves slightly wider and shallowly lobed like a water oak. Both trees are out there and when they're young it's not easy for me to tell them apart.

I think...
pretty sure it is a willow oak. I looked back through my Apr 09 images and have one shot with the leaves just emerging. It was just ~2 ft sapling these were on. I can doublecheck the actual tree later, and if I'm wrong will re-post here, but I think that is correct.
