The day of hatching; on radish leaf, morning. Evidently the caterpillar ate holes in the leaf where its egg had been. I had set the leaf with egg aside, and it wasn't perforated before. This caterpillar had begun to turn green by the time I found that it had hatched. They start out yellow, like this one:
