Longhorn - Clytus ruricola

Longhorn - Clytus ruricola
Harms Woods Forest Preserves, Glenview, Cook County, Illinois, USA
July 13, 2006
Size: ~9mm
We went to Harms yesterday to see if Cicuta was blooming. It was and there was a wild array of pollinators and nectaring species -- flies, wasps, bees, beetles.... We photographed what we think might be six different species of Cerambycids. We're not sure how to distinguish between Clytus ruricola and Xyrotrechus Schaefferi, Yanega figures 119 and 120.

Clytus ruricola
Clytus and Xylotrechus are separated by the absence or presence of carinae on the front of the head. Now isn't that helpful?
