Rhyopsocus bentonae Sommerman - Rhyopsocus bentonae - male - female

Rhyopsocus bentonae Sommerman - Rhyopsocus bentonae - Male Female
Port Aransas, Nueces County, Texas, USA
May 5, 2012
Size: 1.1 mm
I found these adorable Hobbit psocids under a dead palm leaf. The male (left) has a very distinctive "fish-tail like flap arising before and underlying hypandrial plate and..epiproct flanked by 2 finger-like lobes" (1). I feel confident of my ID but I have asked Mockford to confirm it and am awaiting his response. He is very busy (as usual) but I just could not wait to post these remarkable critters.

Dr. Mockford
confirmed my ID.
