Other Common Names
Known simply as the black carpenter ant in the Mountain West and Pacific Northwest, I suggest prefacing with "Western" to distinguish from C. pennsylvanicus.
Range
Mountains of western US and southwestern Canada (apparently nowhere sympatric with the closely related C. pennsylvanicus)
Habitat
Conifer forest, in dead wood. Also in wood structures.
