Fuzzynymph on arrowwood, Viburnum dentatum - Phenacoccus aceris - Female
Briar Bush Nature Center, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA
May 3, 2012
Size: 5-6 mm
Almost a month later, there are still some of these bugs on the arrowwoods. They have developed a heavy waxy coat and, curiously, the coccid under the coat is much reduced in size. Perhaps they don't feed at all at this time.
Actually, this is the egg case. The adult, in fact, shrivels and dies after laying eggs, according to the fact sheet.
