ID for Southern California wasp? - Ammophila
Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA

There were several of these wasps flying around and going in and out of a hole (the edge of which can be seen on the right side of this photo) in a sandy, gravelly path through coastal sage scrub at the Claremont Colleges' Robert J. Bernard Biological Field Station. I wondered if they could be Ammophila?

I don't know how I managed not to fill in the date field, but it's fixed now. I saw them today. Thanks so much for catching that! And thanks, too, for confirming the ID and moving the images!
