What is this? - Triorla interrupta
The Woodlands, near a slow creek with ponds, Montgomery County, Texas, USA
July 15, 2006
Size: body~ 1.5 in.
This one really has us stumped. Can anyone help with any info?

Robber Fly
Family Asilidae. A very large and diverse group of predatory flies. I'll leave it to the experts to ID further.

Thanks
for the direction. We had no idea where to start. We've been scanning through the Robber flies, and it seems it could be in the Asilinae subfamily.
seems to look the most like it. Could it be a triorla? How does one tell the various types apart?

Triorla
This is a Triorla interrupta male.

Thanks
for the additional help. None yet reported in Texas, so moving to the guide.
