Unknown Carrion Beetle - Lobiopa insularis

Unknown Carrion Beetle - Lobiopa insularis
Lakeland, Polk County, Florida, USA
July 11, 2006
Size: 6 mm
Was underneath some rotting fruit outside.

Moved

Andrew Cline says this is Lobiopa insularis, a nitidulid,
which is said to be the most frequently observed sap beetle in Florida strawberries (Price 2004)

Thanks
Wow, I am sure appreciative of you and Mr. Cline working on this group of insects to put names to them. Great addition to this site.

Not Carrion Beetle:-)
This is either in the Ostomatidae (pretty sure) or Nitidulidae. I guess Ostomatidae is now in the Trogossitidae, in our guide at least.

There are a bunch of them --
nitidulids that have a squiggle of light markings right there. I'm moving yours to join them. Andrew Cline must be doing fieldwork. When he gets back, we'll have a mess of nits for him to look at.
