small click beetle - Aeolus
Willow Grove, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA
May 14, 2012
Size: 4-5 mm
It looked like an ant running on my kitchen floor. When I picked it up and it clicked inside my hand, I knew that it was no ant.

not sure why...
the whole comment isnt being posted?!?

one more time...
the literature tends to say that greater than 5mm is mellillus and less than 5 mm is amabilis. I am not comfortable with such distinctions. Until the upcoming revision comes out (not holding my breath), it's probably safe to call this A. mellillus.

In the NE, amabilis and mellillus are your only options.

Aeolus mellillus, i believe
common @ my patio lights
