In our yard which is bordered by madrone forest, in the Siskiyous about 2500 feet in elevation.

Teneral R. ventralis...
but no concrete idea as to subspecies.

Maybe something like Rhynocoris?

And maybe teneral? The experts will be able to say for sure.

you are brave to pick up a bug you don't know anything about, yikes!!

actually, that's the only way
we pick bugs to study them -- and usually prefer those we don't know anything about )))
however, those that may cause any significant harm are very few and far between, so it doesn't take much bravery

well I guess I think about the wheel bugs and their particular bite.. but true, I wear gloves.. I am a chicken.. lol
