Eggplant bug - Stictocephala diceros

Eggplant bug - Stictocephala diceros
middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
July 16, 2006
Size: about 0.5 cm?
Every year something kills my eggplants. I think I've finally found it. What is this? What control is recommended?

Ceresa
Probably C. diceros, which is brown as an adult. I doubt that it is killing your eggplants. Check for a borer if there is no obvious bites out of the leaves. Please watch for adults and send another shot when they appear.

Wow! Looks like a great Treehopper nymph
Can't wait to see what Dr Hamilton says this is.
We can't imagine this is hurting the plant to any great extent. We sometimes see dozens of nymphs of other species on the same branch of a plant without anything that looks like serious damage. Your local agricultural extension office can probably tell you what is harming eggplants in your area.
