Mason Wasp - Ancistrocerus unifasciatus

Mason Wasp - Ancistrocerus unifasciatus
Appleton, Outagamie County, Wisconsin, USA
May 18, 2012
These wasps live above my window and periodically get trapped inside my window screen. They appear 1-2 at a time. This one I trapped and froze briefly to take these shots (it recovered after a few minutes!). I figure it's a fair trade for me regularly freeing them from my window and putting them back outside. There are small decorative holes above the window suited to a mason wasp. Based on the guide, I believe this is Monobia quadridens, though the accents are slightly yellower in my wasps.

But wait to hear from the experts.

This is indeed Ancistrocerus unifasciatus (female)
I didn't guess this beautiful species could be found that far North.
