Abstract

Four species of asopine stink bugs, Alcaeorrhynchus grandis (Dallas), Euthyrhynchus floridanus (L.), Podisus maculiventris (Say), and Stiretrus anchorago (Fab.), were reared in the laboratory under identical conditions. Two groups of each species were maintained; one under simulated Florida field conditions at a variable temperature ranging from 18-30dC, averaging approximately 26dC, and the second at a constant temperature of 27dC.

Abstract

Stiretrus anchorago (F.) was collected from S.C. soybean fields and reared at 3 constant temperatures. Larvae of [Mexican Bean Beetle] Epilachna varivestis Mulsant were used as prey for S. anchorago in life history studies.
Female adults lived an average of 46.0 29.6, and 12.6 days; males 38.2, 24.8, and 22.4 days at constant temperatures of 18.3, 26.7, and 32.2dC, respectively. Mean numbers of eggs per female were 12.6, 57.3, and 15.0 at 18.3, 26.7, and 32.2dC, respectively.

Abstract

The species composition and abundance of stink bugs (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) in corn, Zea mays L., was determined in this on-farm study in Georgia. Seven species of phytophagous stink bugs were found on corn with the predominant species being Nezara viridula (L.) and Euschistus servus (Say). All developmental stages of these two pests were found, indicating they were developing on the corn crop.
