mayfly nymph - Epeorus

mayfly nymph - Epeorus
Sierra City, Sierra County, California, USA
July 1, 2006

Heptageniidae sp.
Probably an Epeorus.

Agreed,
Epeorus is most likely, some markings are consistant with E. longimannus, some are not, could be variation or diagnostic for another species. Maybe/maybe not is always so helpful, sorry 'bout that. Two tails (on nymphs) are diagnostic of Epeorus, Pseudocloen and a few Baetidae. The triangular mid-femoral dark markings are also characteristic of Epeorus. When in doubt, ask the trout, the answer will be better than mine. ;)>
