Clerid from scrub oak aerea - Loedelia discoidea

Clerid from scrub oak aerea - Loedelia discoidea
Oracle ridge trail, Catalinas, Pima County, Arizona, USA
May 21, 2012
Size: 6mm

Jacques Rifkind says:
"Wow! Margarethe does it again! That's Loedelia discoidea (LeConte)-- a very rare critter. Nice record from the Catalinas, as its been reportedly taken down near the Lochiel area of the Patagonias. (Also known from New Mexico.) A date would be important to append to that record. I have never collected it, and do not have it in my collection...so go get another one Margarethe!"

Moved from Loedelia.

Thank you very much Jaques and Vassili!
I added the date. The beetle was on a little Silver-leaf oak that was full of Hemiphrynus intermedius - similar in size and colors. So I nearly overlooked him.

Moved tentatively based on club shape; neat bug...
Moved from ID Request.

Are you sending ot to Jaques?

sure -- the very instant i saw it

I was just going through
those, too. No one with a red head yet.
