Clover Looper - Hodges#8738 (Caenurgina crassiuscula) ? - Caenurgina crassiuscula - Female
Oak Ridge, Guilford County, North Carolina, USA
May 22, 2012
Size: ~ 20mm
Came to porch light.
Looks like C. crassiuscula based on BG info and other resources, compared to C. erechtea.

However, none of the examples I have found have the prominent
spot in the middle of the wing.

Moved
Moved from Caenurgina.

Moving to crassiuscula
because I have had an opportunity to compare this photo to a definite
forage looper which I photo'd today. They differ in several respects.

Moved from ID Request.

We'll find out now :)

I'm not so sure
I'm not so sure we'll find out.
The images on BG don't seem to be consistent, particularly about the meeting of the foremost dark lines on the inner margins.

Maybe this will help

Thanks, Robert.
I already looked at these images and read some info about how to tell these apart.
That is why I guessed crassiuscula. It's just the big spots in the middle of the wings that I can't find mentioned or pictured anywhere.

Hi Stan
I agree (dark band to edge of the wing). I don't have any photos (among about 14) with the lighter spots but they don't look too unusual out of place to me. My inclination would be ignore them and go with your ID.

But, of course, I'm just a new-to-the-game picture-matcher for ID.

Cheers!

SP

Thanks, Steve.
I just hope we don't have to examine any genitalia.
