Found in Burton Mesa chaparral habitat. Seems to match well with this species on Ant Web: http://www.antweb.org/description.do?subfamily=myrmicinae&genus=pogonomyrmex&name=subnitidus&rank=species&project=calants and it lists specimens of this species from La Purisma Mission which is close in terms of geography and habitat.
