I took this photo at 12:32 p.m. The insect was preening itself on the stucco wall and then flew off.

are you sure?
could it be a dark form of Bombus rufocinctus?
It sure does look like bimaculatus, but that's very far NW for that species!

It is definitely not a Carpenter bee, the abdomen is too fuzzy, and the head is not large enough. Its a bumble bee
