Possibly immature wheel bug or assassin bug? - Phymata

Possibly immature wheel bug or assassin bug? - Phymata
Horsham, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 14, 2006
Size: 6 mm
This creature appeare in my sink while I was cleaning flowers and produce I had just collected from an organic farm. To my knowledge, they do NOT purchase non-native biological controls. I placed some aphids in the container with the creature, hoping that it would use its mantis-like forelimbs to chow down. It seemed totally uninterested. I thought its structure resembled that of an immature wheel bug, but I could not find any images with similar coloration and markings on the back.
