Specific epithet from Latin for the "wings shining yellow at the base, beyond to just before the apices deep purplish or violaceous."

Adult - A unique Sparganothis with the outer 3/4 of the forewings smooth immaculate violet and the thorax and inner 1/4 of the forewings dark yellow. Labial palps are long.
Range
Northeastern U.S. and coast to coast in Canada.

Wetlands where blueberries (Vaccinium spp.) grow.
