Nervous Fella - Necrodes surinamensis

Nervous Fella - Necrodes surinamensis
Duval County, Florida, USA
June 3, 2012
Size: Around and inch
Can anyone tell me what kind of beetle this is please? Though the over wings may look armored, they're actually quite a bit softer and more paper-ish than most of the tank-like beetles I've encountered, thus he flies fast and far more gracefully than most.

male Necrodes surinamensis

Wow, a carrion beetle!?
Hmm, don't know how he ended up in our dinning room... maybe attracted to light? I noticed the the name, "Surinamensis," does that mean they are originally from Surinam, like the Surinam Roach?
Thanks for the I.D. :)
