Lygaeoidea.
This is a seed bug of some sort. Lygaeidae has now been split into something like ten different families, and I'm not sure where this one would fall, sorry. I do know an expert on the group, though, and if she visits (again), she would be able to tell you.

How do we go about it?
Eric: what should we do now? Create a superfamily page and move Lygaeidae to it and anything else that belongs there? What a headache!
In the meantime I am moving these fine pictures to Hemiptera.

Cymidae.
Actually, I am pretty sure this belongs in the family Cymidae, now that I take a second look. Placing it there for now. I'll be seeing my friend who is the expert, and might have an answer as early as Christmas time:-)

C. luridus?
Looks to be Cymus luridus, but I am not 100% sure based on the photo.

pls move to the Cymus page anyway
(i lean towards Cymus discors Horvath 1908)
