striped wing fly
I am in Oklahoma and was bitten on the arm by a fly that looks very much like this one. It stung at first and produced a red bump. The next day it was a large hot red spot on around the bite. Over the next couple of days it became a rash, warm and very itchy. Apparently I am having an allergic reaction. I was wondering if the fly in the pic bites.

Picture-winged fly?
This is either a picture-winged fly (Otitidae family for us old folks:-), or a fruit fly, family Tephritidae. I'd bet on the former, but they are not easily differentiated.

Ulidiidae/Otitidae
This is definitely a ulidiid fly. Some of the characteristic parts of wing venation in tephritids are not visible here.
