Cienega Creek Preserve, Pima County, Arizona, USA

Can someone ID? I'm not too good at Cicada identification. From a site dominated by Creosote, with some Sotol and Yucca elata. It was pretty much spent and could only fly a few inches at best. Thanks

D. apache complex.
In all honesty, there is a good bit of uncertainty concerning several of these southwestern species and how to accurately id them.

There are a few folks claiming they can separate and id. them based on formuleic characters (which I have used religiously until recently); however, in more recent conversation with several cicada specialists, there is growing consensus that these guys need a taxonomic overhaul!

Based on morphological characteristics, call similarities, and distribution patterns, the following taxa appear to be very closely related and possibly may even be conspecific representing nothing more than a complex cline (groupings of "subspecies").

Frequently confused.
Diceroprocta apache
Diceroprocta cinctifera
Diceroprocta semicincta

Another species within this group and possessing a similar (identical) call is D. marevagans.
Diceroprocta marevagans

Thank
you for the information D. apache complex will have to do for now.
