8540 - Citrus Fruit-piercer Moth - Gonodonta nutrix
Florida City, Dade County, Florida, USA
June 28, 2006
Going to the Everglades? Visit Jack's Bait and Tackle at the south end of Florida City on Rte. 1 (35412 S. Federal Hwy.). Tell Joey Russo I sent you to snag moths off the glass storefront. Check the lights out back. Ask for the stepladder if you need it. It's a moth-ers heaven! That's where this cool jewel came from. Photographed up the road a bit in my photo suite at the Days Inn (room 123 for the record, the toilet leaked).

Images moved from genus page to new species page.

Note that the common name "Citrus Leafminer" on the MPG page refers to Phyllocnistis citrella (Hodges # 854.1), directly below the Gonodonta nutrix entry on John Heppner's list of common names of Florida Lepidoptera.
