That looks more like
Uncas Skipper (Hesperia uncas), with those dark spots between the white.

On a different note, Kaufmann shows Carus just reaching the far NW corner of Texas.

Heavily worn, but
Try Carus Skipper (Polites carus)

 
A new specimen
Thanks. I found another photo with a less worn specimen and added it here. Maybe it's a female, being lighter?

These look a lot like the Carus Skipper, but they were in the northwest corner of Texas, outside the range mentioned in butterfliesandmoths.org.

Can you tell anything from the additional photo?
